Eat. Drink. Be Merry.

“So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.“- Ecclesiastes 8:15

Don’t forget to enjoy the fruits of your labor. As much as driven people like to go out there and conquer the world, it is important that we take the time to enjoy the little things. Make time for yourself. Go get a massage or treat yourself to a weekend getaway. It is okay to reward yourself from time to time. If you don’t, you will be drained emotionally, mentally, and physically. Work life balance is important. I had to learn the hard way. I almost had a nervous breakdown, because I was so overwhelmed with all the pressures, stress, and demands of my career. Good thing I had mentors who told me to give myself sometime to breathe. You can’t go a hundred miles per hour all the time, as you will not be able to sustain it. This is why I make it a point to go on vacation every year, an escape to a place where I turn everything off. I also do a quarterly personal retreat where I spend time with God for a weekend, and get some direction on prioritizing my life, and making sure I am still on track for what He has called me to do. I focus on all areas of my life and do a self-evaluation of where I was, where I am now, and where I am going. I then create an action plan with real deadlines for me so I can hold myself accountable. I journal a lot and I write down the lessons I have learned and questions I have. This has helped me tremendously to accomplish my goals and help me focus on the things that are the most important.
